Flower - Siinamota Tribute (2018)

This is a painting I did in 2018, and is 1 of 2 paintings I created as a tribute to the late artist, Siinamota. I used watercolor and an image transfer method to overlay the Japanese text multiple times throughout the painting. Siinamota's work resonates very closely and is very personal to me, so I wanted to create a few artworks as tributes to him.

Siinamota was a Japanese musician mostly known for his work involving the use of Vocaloids, like Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Rin. Through his music, he expressed his struggles with confronting adulthood and finding reasons to keep living. Unfortunately, he passed away in July 2015, at the young age of 20.

The Japanese text present throughout this painting is his last tweet before he passed, which roughly translates to: "I've lost my enchantment with life, now that I've grown up. Seems like being a grown-up is no good." I decided to depict yellow chrysanthemums because they're typically associated with death and funerals in Japanese culture.

I included this as part of my Breadth work for AP Studio Art in 2018. (AP Portfolio Score: 5)
